Sacramento Guitar Society News in 2013-14

JANUARY 2014

Our January program featured a fine one hour concert by Michael Nigro, whose program lived up to the glowing reviews fro his previous programs.

DECEMBER 2013

Greg Williams led his final concert as Director of the Sacramento Guitar Orchestra's Holiday Concert at CSUS Capistrano Hall.

David Burgess played a program focused on The Music of Brazil in concerts at the Harris Center for the Arts, the Blue Line Arts in Roseville, Rosemont High School, HIram Johnson High School and Mitchell Middle School. He also visited Waylin Carpenter's workshop. His guitar has a 7th string and he was impressed with the 7-string design on Matt Grasso's new Waylin Carpenter Extended 7-string spruce top.

OCTOBER 2013

Italian concert guitarist and recording artist Massimo Delle Cese came to Sacramento for a series of concerts and school appearances including two high schools and the CSUS guitar majors program. He visited SGS Board member Waylin Carpenter's workshop, Kremona USA offices/warehouse in Rancho Cordova and got to sail on Lake Tahoe before the weather changed. The Sacramento Guitar Orchestra rehearsed before an open stage hour.

SEPTEMBER 2013

Swedish virtuoso Celia Linde was our guest for the first meeting of the year at CSUS Capistrano Hall. We also took her to White Rock Elementary School and Kremona Trade, both in Rancho Cordova, and blue line arts in Roseville.
The Sacramento Guitar Orchestra resumed monthly rehearsals and SGS artists performed at Westminster Presbyterian Church's Music At Noon concert series.

AUGUST 2013

Our Guitar Repair Workshop was held August 17th at the home and workshop of board member and luthier Waylin Carpenter in El Dorado Hills. Nylon-string guitars donated fro the California Bluegrass Association were in need of repair before we re-donate them to schools and Folsom Prison, where Gabe Becker volunteers his time to lead the Classical Guitar Program. See ABOUT for more detailed information about the Prison Program.

Summer Guitar Fest
with Mimi Fox, Pierre Bensusan and Laurence Juber

Of Mimi Fox, no less of a jazz virtuoso than Joe Pass said “she plays with tremendous fire. She can do pretty much anything she wants on her instrument.” And Laurence Juber was selected by Paul McCartney himself to be the lead guitarist for Wings, Sir Paul’s post-Beatles ensemble.
