Fingerstyle Guitar Workshop:
"You Can Play 'Jazz' Guitar Too!"
(Untangling the Mysteries of Jazz Harmony and Jazz-Chord Fingerings)
February 11, 1:30 - 3:30 at the Daniel Roest Guitar Studio
Grammy Winner Mark Hanson's most recent release is his transcription book/instructional CD from his jazz standards recording, Great American Songbook For Guitar. In this workshop, Mark explains the workings of Western harmony, and how jazz cats use it. Then he applies that to fingerstyle guitar. This is a "what-are-the-chords, where-are-the-chords, where-are-the-melody-notes-around-them" session. Handouts include a plethora of jazz chords, staring with easy ones and moving to the more complex; and Mark's note-for-note transcription of his zippy "Zing Went the Strings of My Heart" arrangement, the tune from the CD not included in the book.
